This definitely sounds like your switch is broken. Good news is it's a pretty simple fix. All you need to do is remove the upper handle assembly by removing two long screws that go into the back of the handle, and you'll be able to see the switch after removing the handle assembly. There are a few screws on the back of the switch housing that can be removed also, but you should be able to change the switch by putting a flat head screwdriver behind the screw and wedging out.
